Johnnie's Journal No.2

With our very British preoccupation with the weather, we have all been disappointed of late with the shift in the jet stream bringing unseasonal cold and rain. In the typical style of summer here, we can be basking in the warm sun one second, and running indoors, out of the rain the next. We are now in ‘Village Fête’ season and the weather has proved a challenge but, as always, the show must go on and I guess we’re used to it. Wellies and shorts, umbrellas and sunglasses.

The Lavender fields up above Snowshill are at their best now, bringing a touch of Provence to the a, full of tourists and honey bees. A little further afield, the Wick Confetti farm is open for public viewing for a few shott weeks before the harvesting takes place. These acres of annually planted delphiniums in shades of lilac, pink, white and deepest blue are a spectacular sight. Many villages and towns are hosting the National Garden Scheme, where locals open up their private gardens in order to raise money for charity. It is such a lovely way to spend a sunny day and the gardens are spectacular, from the tiny cottage plots to the grand old houses. Very inspiring and the result of months of hard work.

As I write the swallows are lining up on the telephone wires, surely they are not planning their departure yet? Perhaps they, like the rest of us are dreaming of sunnier climes.
